Transistor Darlington (NPN)

Schematic symbol

Two NPN transistors combined in one (e.g. TIP120), giving a very high current gain, so a tiny base current can switch a motor or relay directly from a microcontroller pin. Connect it like a normal NPN: load between the supply and collector, emitter to ground, and a resistor on the base. It drops more voltage when on (about 1–2 V) than a single transistor.
