Operational Amplifier (with power pins)

Schematic symbol

Op-amp: amplifies the difference between its + (non-inverting) and − (inverting) inputs by a huge amount. With resistors feeding the output back to the − input, it becomes an amplifier with a precise gain; with no feedback, it works as a comparator. The two extra pins are the positive and negative supply; many op-amps, like the LM358, can run from a single supply with the negative pin at ground.
