Solar cell

Schematic symbol

Turns light into electricity. A single silicon cell gives about 0.5–0.6 V, so panels combine many cells to reach higher voltages. The output depends heavily on the light, so it usually charges a battery, through a charge controller or a blocking diode, rather than powering a circuit directly.
