Single-digit 7-segment display: eight LEDs (7 segments plus a decimal point) sharing one common pin, which is the anode (+) or the cathode (−) depending on the type. Each segment needs its own series resistor. Drive it from a microcontroller or a decoder like the CD4511 (for common cathode).
