Hall effect sensor

Schematic symbol

A bare Hall element with four terminals: you send a small bias current through one pair (IN+ and IN−), and a magnetic field makes a tiny Hall voltage appear across the other pair (OUT+ and OUT−). The output is only a few millivolts, so it needs an amplifier, such as an op-amp or instrumentation amp, before you can use it. It's used for things like current sensing and detecting the position of a magnet.
